Lake Manyas is a freshwater lake that has four streams feeding it and filled with nutrient-rich water. The lake also provides habitats for varieties of fish and other organisms in the form of exotic frogs, bass, pike, mullet, and carp.

The water of the 20 kilometer long, 14 km wide average depth 3 meter deep lake is constantly blurred because it contains clay. The season dependent water levels in Lake Manyas change when the seasons change.

Lake Manyas Bird Paradise National Park, established in 1959 and located near the town of Balikesir, is home to a variety of trees including willows and tamarisks.Alongside all the reeds, rush, and other grasses in this marshland are also many other types of flowering plants. One such type of plant is the reed which grows alongside rushes and brings beauty to these marshlands. Different types of birds come here from miles around on a yearly basis as well. It has been estimated that there are 246 species of birds that visit Bird Paradise National Park, so it's quite an amazing place for bird admirers.
