Private Pergamon & Asclepion Tour Itinerary
Hotel Pick-up from Kusadasi or Selcuk
Your private guide and driver will meet you at your hotel at approximately 9:00 AM. After a short introduction, depart in your private air-conditioned vehicle for the Pergamon region. The journey normally takes around two hours, with the exact timing depending on your hotel location and road conditions.
Pergamon Acropolis
Arrive at the hilltop Pergamon Acropolis, which became one of the leading political, cultural and intellectual centers of the Hellenistic world under the Attalid dynasty. Access to the upper city is generally arranged by cable car or another suitable local option according to operating conditions.
Explore the surviving remains of the Temple of Athena, the celebrated Library of Pergamon, the Temple of Trajan, the sacred area associated with the Great Altar, the Temple of Dionysus and other important structures while your guide explains the development of the ancient kingdom and its rivalry with other major centers of learning.
The Steep Theatre of Pergamon
Visit the remarkable Hellenistic theatre constructed against the steep western slope of the Acropolis. With seating for approximately 10,000 spectators and expansive views over the surrounding landscape, it is one of Pergamon’s most dramatic surviving monuments.
Lunch at a Local Restaurant
Take a relaxing lunch break at a carefully selected local restaurant. The tour is designed to avoid rushed open-buffet venues used by large bus groups, allowing you to enjoy a more personal dining experience. Lunch is included, while drinks are excluded.
Asclepion Ancient Healing Center
Continue to the Asclepion, the famous sanctuary dedicated to Asclepius, god of medicine and healing. The site developed into one of the ancient world’s most respected medical centers, where treatments combined sacred rituals, spring water, rest, exercise and the interpretation of dreams.
Walk through the remains of the Roman theatre, North and South Stoas, Temple of Asclepius, circular treatment building, healing spring, library and underground passageway. Your guide will explain how patients were received and how the sanctuary’s medical traditions developed during the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
