Artvin (Livane) Castle

Artvin Castle is located in Çayağzı Neighborhood of Artvin. It has been built on a hillside and connects to the bedrock at 70 m below the river with an opposite connection to the road leading from Erzurum to Samsun.

There are ruins from cistern and chapel in the castle. The building was originally built as an Georgian fort in 937 by King Osett the Great with an old name of Livane.

The castle, which was captured by the Ottomans in the 16th century, was repaired several times. Artvin Castle, which is in the military zone today, was repaired in 2004.
