Akyatan Wildlife Development Area Located within the Karataş district boundaries, Akyatan Wildlife Development Area and RAMSAR Area was designated as a "Wildlife Protection and Production Area" by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks in 1987. The area was subsequently renamed as a "Wildlife Development Area" in 2005 following a decision by the Council of Ministers. Akyatan Lagoon is the largest lagoon in Adana, and the area provides a vital habitat for a wide range of water birds. The site is protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, an international agreement that seeks to safeguard these ecosystems from development and pollution. Several bird species, including Francolin, Purple Gallinule, Thick-Knee, Marbled Teal, Snowy Plover, Vanellus Spinosus, and Little Tern, can be found in the area.
